Situated in front of Dentalia on Lemminkäisenkatu is the 2,500-kilogram Tooth Stone. Quite literally a tooth-shaped stone sculpture, its original title, Hammaskivi, is also a pun on the Finnish word for calculus, a form of hardened dental plaque – a fitting nod to its home, the Institute of Dentistry at the University of Turku. The sculpture, which was unveiled on 29 May 2007, is the diploma work of Turku University of Applied Sciences’ Arts Academy alum Anne Melin, modelled after the artist’s own tooth.
