A midnight blue wall meets an orange gate in Päivi Granö’s (b. 1958) untitled silkscreen from 1989. Granö donated her student-time assignment piece to the University’s Cultural Production and Landscape Studies unit in Pori when she began working as Lecturer in Landscape Studies at the unit in 2002. Both the motif and the colours are reminiscent of the artist’s travels in southern Europe. Fascinated by intermediate and transitional spaces, Granö has often also photographed and drawn gates.
Granö completed her teacher training in 1980 and earned her master’s degree from the University of Turku in 1986. She earned her doctoral degree in Fine Arts from the University of Art and Design Helsinki in 2001. Granö was appointed Professor of Art Education at the Faculty of Art and Design at the University of Lapland in 2007. She holds the title of Docent of Landscape Studies at the University of Turku.
