Erected in front of the Turku School of Economics in 1968 by the City of Turku and sculptor Jussi Mäntynen (1886–1978), White-Tailed Sea-Eagles exudes natural drama. The sculpture depicts white-tailed sea-eagles frozen in mid-air, quarrelling over a fish caught by one of the two birds of prey. The artist, who also worked as a taxidermist during his career, is known for realistic animal sculptures that exhibit species-typical behaviour and features. Mäntynen studied at the Central School of Applied Arts in the early 1900s and 1910s. He was granted the title of Professor in 1948.
